Salami, a sleek black cat, had been roaming the streets for quite some time. One day, she stumbled upon Ida Floreak’s house and noticed Floreak’s cat, Bruce, lounging in the backyard. There were sparks, but not between Salami and Bruce. Still, Salami kept returning to the house every day.
Floreak eventually noticed the persistent feline visitor and started leaving food for her. Salami had a routine: a morning meow to announce her arrival, a happy meal, and then she’d disappear.
Floreak wanted to help Salami, hoping to get her checked by a vet, but the cautious cat wouldn’t let her get close.
Floreak persisted, determined to earn Salami’s trust and get her spayed and vaccinated. But fate had other plans.
Salami’s belly grew rounder by the day. Spaying was no longer an option, but Floreak hoped to build a bond to provide the best care for Salami and her upcoming litter.
Slowly, a connection blossomed. Salami felt safe around Floreak and started spending more time near the house, even cuddling with Floreak. When labor approached, Salami knew exactly where she wanted to be – safe and secure at Floreak’s house.
“She came by at 5 and was squeaking very insistently,” Floreak recalled. “So I let her in and she started having her babies around 8 or 9 in the morning.”
Floreak was surprised and overjoyed. She’d finally earned Salami’s trust! She provided a quiet, cozy spot with blankets for Salami to deliver her precious kittens in peace.
Salami delivered two beautiful furballs, and Floreak thought that was it. But the biggest surprise was yet to come.
Later that evening, while Floreak was on a video call, Salami surprised everyone with another round of deliveries! Two more kittens arrived, leaving Floreak a little flustered but filled with wonder.
“I was super nervous,” Floreak admitted, “but watching her, it was clear she just knew exactly what to do. It was an amazing experience.”
Witnessing Salami’s motherly instincts unfold, Floreak knew she was a natural – so sweet and attentive to her little ones. Floreak found loving homes for each kitten, and the best part? Salami became a permanent resident!
Their story and the strong bond they formed made keeping Salami an easy decision. Even Bruce, Floreak’s initial feline friend, adjusted well to his new housemate. Now, everyone is happy and exactly where they belong!
