A young woman from San Francisco discovered a friendly pregnant cat in her backyard, and she knew she had to do something to help. The cute tuxedo was on the prowl for a secure location to raise her kittens.

Because of her landlord’s rules, the woman had to find a new home for her cat, so she contacted Mini Cat Town in San Jose, California, to see if they might take her in.

The night we returned from our trip, a pregnant cat was brought to us. Thoa Bui of Mini Cat Town told Love Meow, “She needed a place to have her babies and we can provide that.”

The delicious tuxedo was dubbed “Chai,” short for “Chai Latte Soy,” by its creators.

Meanwhile, two abandoned kittens of only an hour’s age were discovered in a backyard. Nine Lives Rescue of Redwood City came to their aid. The kittens needed a mother’s care and were not doing well.

Because they had a nursing cat mama who might be able to aid them, they were moved to Mini Cat Town.

“When we put them in with her, Chai accepted them right away,” Thoa said to Love Meow. She gave them a quick sniff, waited a second, and then started licking them. Within an hour, they began to breastfeed.

Mama Chai showered her new offspring, as well as her older ones, with love and care.

She is devoted to them and always thinks ahead to ensure that their needs are met. She has an unfathomable amount of patience.

The weakest kitten in the litter and one of the abandoned kittens fought valiantly, but ultimately lost. Mama’s foster family provided all the assistance she required to continue feeding and caring for her remaining six.

Chai gives her babies all the affection they need to flourish by cuddling with them while she’s not feeding or cleaning them.

The kittens’ development was phenomenal. Every day, they increased their level of playfulness and daring.

They take care to ensure that Mama Chai drinks water and eats regularly. They pet her frequently and assist her with the kittens whenever they can.

Female cats tend to be adopted later than their kittens.
