When Tilly was still a small kitten, her family decided to take her in as a member of the family, and for the following two years, she was an important part of their life in many different ways.
In 2014, the family went on vacation and left Tilly in the care of a sitter. When they returned, they were devastated to find out that Tilly had gone missing.
As soon as they arrived home, Tilly’s family put out every effort they could think of to locate their cherished cat, but they were unsuccessful in their search for her.
“We would stand outside and call her name every day for about six months after we got home,” Emily Rivers, a member of Tilly’s family, told The Dodo. “After we got home, we would call her name for about six months.” When we went for walks in our suburban neighborhood, we made it a habit to keep a sharp lookout.
We sent messages to all of the local animal rescue organizations and pound facilities, but nobody discovered her. Along the way, we stopped at a few discovered cats that were similar to her, but our efforts were fruitless.
About two years into the ordeal, we had almost given up all hope of ever being able to find our daughter again.
The grieving family finally came to terms with the fact that Tilly would most likely never return home, but then they received a phone call that turned their world upside down. Their veterinarian informed them that after six years, someone had finally discovered Tilly.
According to Rivers, at first, we were taken aback since we had never before considered the possibility that this day may come.
When we found out that she had been a stray in the neighborhood for nearly six months, only a few blocks over from where we lived, we couldn’t believe what we were hearing.
I really didn’t want to believe it until I met her because I didn’t want to get my hopes up again and I didn’t want to be disappointed.
It seems that Tilly had been coming to the house of a certain family over the course of a number of months, asking for food and attention. After some time, the family decided to take Tilly to the veterinarian to check to see if she was microchipped, and they discovered that she was.
Rivers and her sister raced over to the veterinarian as soon as they received the call and were overcome with happiness when they discovered that Tilly was waiting for them there.
After all of these years, they were overjoyed to finally catch up with her, and Tilly was just as ecstatic to see them as she had been to see her.
“Tilly just snuggled into us as if to say, ‘I’m finally home,'” Rivers added. “It was the cutest thing.” “I have no doubt that she keeps our interaction in her memory.”
“She hasn’t stopped eating, and every night she curls into my arms for some cuddles,” Rivers added. “She never lets us out of her sight and follows us around wherever we go.
” We were under the impression that she would make another attempt to flee the home, but it seems that she is no longer interested in doing so.
Nothing has changed over their extended absence of six years apart from each other. Tilly is ecstatic to be back with her family and is still the same friendly cat that she has always been. She is happy to be home.
